Homestory: Modern organic house with chevron flooring
Family home in Mainz with parquet flooring as its centerpiece
Two elegant parquet flooring options covering 145m²: when you enter this house, you immediately understand what it's all about: light, warmth, style, and a feeling of security. In a new development near Mainz, a home was built in 2025 that doesn't separate design and family life, but rather combines them.
“We didn't just want our home to look beautiful—we wanted it to feel comfortable right away,” says builder Sabrina. “A room has to be functional, but its aesthetics are just as important to us, because only when both come together do we feel truly comfortable in it.”
The key to this feeling was quickly identified by the family: the parquet flooring.
This is our floor
Even during the shell construction phase, it was clear that only real wood would be considered. The family deliberately chose high-quality parquet flooring from Scheucher – out of a conviction for quality, natural materials, and European origin.
“A healthy, natural indoor climate was our top priority. We built a diffusion-open prefabricated house using timber frame construction – so it quickly became clear that we wanted to continue this naturalness in the interior.” To this end, they visited the showroom of our specialist retail partner Holzland Klein. There, a clear vision emerged:
Real wood as part of a sustainable living concept
Light oak, natural, warm
Without the typical white haze found on many modern floors
Timeless design
„I had a very clear picture in my mind,” recalls the client. “I wanted a modern, light, slightly whitish oak floor that was cozy and combined the styles of modern organic and Scandi well.”“
Several samples from different parquet manufacturers were ordered and laid out directly in the shell of the building. The floor was tested at different times of day—in the morning light, midday light, and evening light. “When we laid out the samples in the house, we knew immediately: Scheucher parquet is our floor.”

Parquet flooring in Perla color – not too white, no yellow tinge to the oak
The choice fell on oak parquet flooring in Scheucher's Perla shade, in the Natur grade, with a brushed Valletta surface in an oxidatively oiled/waxed Seda variant.
The Perla shade appears light and natural – a modern interpretation of oak parquet that deliberately avoids any yellow tinge. When planning a modern interior, the question of the right shade for oak parquet often arises: it should not appear too warm, but also not too white. Perla strikes precisely this balance, providing a natural oak shade that harmonizes with both warm and neutral materials. If you are looking for oak parquet without a yellow tinge or are wondering which shade suits a modern interior, these coordinated shades offer a timeless solution.
On the ground floor, the parquet was installed in a Chevron pattern – it makes an architectural statement, especially in the open-plan living, dining, and kitchen area with its round arches.
Upstairs, the family opted for wide plank flooring in two widths. This combination creates an exciting contrast between elegance and tranquility.
Tip for wide plank flooring:
Installing wide plank flooring in different widths opens up a wide range of design possibilities. Playing with narrower and wider formats creates a lively, natural overall look – similar to natural wood. This makes the room appear less austere and adds depth and individuality.
Depending on how the widths of the wide plank flooring are combined, the effect can be specifically controlled: If narrow planks predominate, individual wide formats stand out particularly strikingly. If, on the other hand, the emphasis is on generous widths, the narrower elements add subtle accents. This creates a deliberately composed floor pattern – just as you wish.
Such combinations can be implemented particularly harmoniously with high-quality real wood parquet from Scheucher, as the color scheme and surface are perfectly coordinated.
What was your first thought when the parquet flooring was finished?
"Wow.The flooring immediately gives the rooms a special elegance and incredible warmth. The herringbone parquet on the ground floor looks classy and inviting, while the wide plank flooring on the upper floor is calmer but equally timelessly beautiful. It makes the rooms appear more spacious. I was particularly relieved that the color tone looked exactly the same on the large surface as it did in the sample: light, warm, natural—without any orange or white tint," says Sabrina.
Everyday life with two children – beauty that is allowed to live
The home is occupied by four people, including two children aged 3.5 years and 7 months. The flooring therefore had to be not only attractive, but above all suitable for everyday use.
After six months of use, it is clear that:
„Our parquet flooring is a real everyday hero: easy to care for, quiet, forgiving, and even after six months of use—including children and kitchen—it still looks like new. Small imperfections are part and parcel of real wood, but for us, the advantages clearly outweigh the disadvantages.”
Light as a design element
The house was deliberately designed with a strong lighting concept. Large windows create an open feel, while external blinds control the amount of light entering the room. The effect of the parquet flooring changes depending on the time of day: in the morning, the oak looks fresh and clear; at midday, it appears bright and open; and in the evening, it looks particularly warm and cozy. “The floor looks different at every time of day—but it always looks beautiful.”
Design that connects family and architecture
From the outset, it was important to Sabrina and her husband to create a home that radiates warmth and comfort. The rooms had to be functional – but design was just as essential to both of them.
They are convinced that only in an aesthetically harmonious environment can they truly feel at home. Parquet flooring plays a central role in this concept. It forms the connecting basis between nature and contemporary interiors – and thus shapes the character of each individual room.
For Sabrina, it was therefore clear from the outset: first the floor, then the rest.
“Furniture can be replaced. The floor remains.”
Men and mood boards
The furnishings were deliberately chosen to match the parquet flooring—not the other way around. Research was conducted, comparisons made, ideas discarded, and new ones conceived. Pinterest boards grew, YouTube videos were analyzed, and coffee table books were leafed through. Separate mood boards were created for each room, always based on the wood tone and laying pattern. And yes – that meant intensive consultation, lots of samples, long discussions, and a good dose of patience.
A tongue-in-cheek thank you therefore goes to Sabrina's husband – and to all those partners who accompany color gradations from “warm natural tone” to “slightly warmer natural tone” with admirable calm. But it was precisely this care that paid off. It quickly became clear which wood tone and which laying pattern would be a perfect fit for the house.
“The effort was absolutely worth it.”
Today, the open-plan living, dining, and kitchen area is the family's favorite place.
“This is where our life takes place – full of light, life, and shared moments.”
Sustainability as a living philosophy
For the family, sustainability is much more than just a question of material choice. For them, it is above all about durability – a conscious decision in favor of quality that will last for decades.
“A high-quality floor must last for decades. Only then is it truly sustainable.”
For them, real parquet flooring embodies this attitude perfectly. When asked to describe their floor in three words, they answer without hesitation: Design, naturalness, security.
And in one sentence? “A floor that radiates warmth, naturalness, and security – while being modern, high-quality, and timelessly beautiful.”
The decision to choose parquet from Scheucher was therefore not only an aesthetic one, but also a conscious investment in long-term living quality.
Would they make the same choice again? “Absolutely – with complete conviction.”
Finally, we would like to thank Sabrina and her family for their trust, openness, and inspiring insights into their home – and for making our Austrian parquet flooring part of their very own family history.
