Elevation Parquet in wide-plank and chevron pattern at Hotel Gierer

Parquet Stories Current

The redesign of the entrance area, bar and buffet area, and restaurant at Hotel Gierer on Lake Constancehad a clear objective: to create a warm, high-quality, and timeless atmosphere that immediately engages guests on arrival.

A key design element in this project is approximately 370 m² of core-smoked Fiji oak parquet from the Scheucher Elevation series. The flooring visually connects all areas and establishes a cohesive, high-end design aesthetic—from the reception through the bar to the restaurant.

Two installation patterns – One design concept

What makes this project distinctive is the sophisticated combination of two installtion patterns within an open-plan spatial concept:

  • 45° chevron flooring (MULTIflor 740)
  • Wide plank flooring with border strip (MULTIflor 2200)

This combination is not only visually refined but also executed with exceptional craftsmanship.

Chevron Parquet as a central design feature

In the main restaurant area, the space is defined by a chevron pattern. The 45° layout introduces an elegant sense of movement and naturally draws attention to the floor.

A particular highlight is the precisely crafted border frieze surrounding the chevron field. It fulfils several functions at once:

  • clear zoning within the open space
  • visual framing of the seating area
  • deliberate contrast to the calmer plank surfaces
  • emphasis on high-level craftsmanship

It is precisely this transition—from chevron to wide plank—that showcases the precision of the workmanship.

Wide plank flooring for calmness and spatial clarity

The surrounding areas are finished with wide plank flooring in Oak Fiji . It introduces a sense of calm and enhances the feeling of openness—an important quality in a high-traffic hotel environment.

Together, the two formats create a harmonious balance:

  • Chevron parquet: movement and elegance
  • Plank flooring: calmness and spatial clarity

Core-smoked Oak Parquet “Fiji” – Depth, Character, and Colour Stability

In addition to the installation pattern, the choice of material plays a decisive role. The heart-smoked oak “Fiji” from Scheucher’s Elevation trend collection offers not only visual appeal but also significant technical advantages.

Its warm, natural colour evokes tropical landscapes—a rich golden-brown tone with depth and vibrancy that harmonises beautifully with the muted interior palette.

Heart-Smoked vs. Surface-Smoked Oak Parquet

Unlike surface-treated alternatives, Scheucher’s heart-smoked oak develops its colour through the entire structure of the wood:

  • Ammonia reacts with the oak’s natural tannins
  • The colour change penetrates the full cross-section of each plank
  • The result is a deep, natural, and long-lasting coloration

Key Advantages at a Glance

  • Excellent colour stability, even under intensive hotel use
  • No surface fading or wear of the colour layer
  • Consistent appearance over time
  • Natural, even ageing instead of irregular colour changes
  • A higher-quality alternative to surface-smoked floors

Naturally Unique Results

The final shade is individually influenced by factors such as:

  • duration of the smoking process
  • tannin content of the wood

This ensures that every surface is unique, with a vivid and natural character.

Hardwood flooring in hotels – An atmosphere that lasts

Hotel Gierer impressively demonstrates the role hardwood flooring plays in contemporary hotel design. Here, the floor is not just a surface, but:

  • a key element guiding spatial flow
  • a carrier of atmosphere
  • a design tool for zoning different areas
  • a visible mark of quality for guests
  • a contributor to a healthy indoor climate and pleasant acoustics
  • a durable solution with long service life and renovation potential

The combination of oak parquet, 45° chevron, wide plank flooring, and border friezes—together with precise craftsmanship—creates an environment that feels both high-quality and welcoming. This is exactly what guests perceive intuitively, making the project a strong reference for hardwood flooring in the hotel and commercial sectors.
