Scheucher Parquet in the SINK.CARBON demonstrator: Sustainable construction with wood
On June 17, 2025, the SINK.CARBON demonstrator was opened in Tulln—a groundbreaking project by Wood K plus as part of the THINK.WOOD.Innovation funding program of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Climate Protection, Environment, Regions, and Water Management. The building was previously erected in Burgenland, dismantled there, and rebuilt in Tulln. This impressively demonstrates that timber construction is not only flexible and reusable, but can even be mobile.
Wood construction as the key to climate-friendly building
The demonstrator highlights the potential of wood in construction: every cubic meter of wood used in construction binds carbon in the long term. The use of wooden construction elements creates a permanent carbon sink for more than 150 years, while at the same time reducing the need for emission-intensive building materials such as concrete or steel.
The building system for reusing wood elements developed as part of SINK.CARBON shows how the circular economy can be put into practice in timber construction. In this way, timber construction makes an active contribution to reducing CO₂ emissions and supports the achievement of climate targets.

Scheucher Parquet: Sustainability in interior design
Interior design also plays a crucial role in sustainable construction. In the demonstrator, over 60 m² of Scheucher parquet flooring was installed floating using our NOVOLOC 5G click system: 3-strip flooring in Oak smoked Medium Natur Valletta Seda Natura.
Wooden floors such as parquet contribute to sustainability and climate protection in several ways:
- CO₂ storage: Parquet stores the CO₂ bound in the wood throughout its entire service life.
- Durability and renovability: The durable and reusable wooden floor eliminates the need for frequent replacement products, thereby reducing emissions.
- Healthy indoor climate: Natural materials create a pleasant, healthy living environment.
This makes parquet an ideal component of a circular construction method in which materials are not disposed of but used and reused over the long term.
Combining research and the construction industry
The SINK.CARBON project demonstrates how scientific findings, technical innovations, and high-quality materials go hand in hand. From reusing complete wooden elements to using sustainable wooden floors, a holistic concept for resource-saving and climate-friendly construction is emerging.

Wood construction and wood flooring as a contribution to climate protection
The SINK.CARBON demonstrator shows how timber construction and sustainable interior design actively contribute to reducing CO₂ emissions. By reusing timber construction elements and using durable wood flooring such as Scheucher parquet, carbon is bound in the long term, material consumption is minimized, and sustainable building operation is supported. The project provides a practical example of how resource-saving and climate-friendly construction can already be implemented today.
